Ruído e Engodo — Música ligeira feita por punks

José Smith Vargas

In the text ‘Engodo’, Ian Svenonious develops a dichotomy between the sounds we recognise and the sounds that advance into unknown territories - the decoy and the avant-garde. Punk, in its iconoclastic mission, constantly lives in this pendulum movement, rescuing memories of popular culture and then destroying them, because, informally, it is deeply aware that in order to create the best poetry it is necessary to destroy the poetic presuppositions of a given Situation. In this nicho #5, we listen to some moments when punk devoted itself, voluntarily or involuntarily, to melancholy instead of dystopia, to narration instead of cursing, to song instead of sonic destruction. With the help of The Kinks, The Raincoats, Captain Sensible, Poison Girls, Sin Dios or René Binamé, we might realise that this opposition (tradition-vanguard) is not so linear.
